Information Memorandum
Opening
The Arrowtown Community & Sports Centre Inc trust has been established to investigate the potential feasibility of constructing a multi use community facility in Arrowtown. The growth of the Arrowtown community in recent years has necessitated the potential for a complex that is capable of housing a diverse range of community groups and sporting clubs well into the future on the only suitable centrally located community tract of land left in Arrowtown.
Intended Proposal
To construct a multi use community facility on QLDC freehold land at Suffolk St in Arrowtown to incorporate a number of community groups and organisations. The intended facility will be constructed to a scale and design the community indicates as a result of due process and community consultation.
Background Information
- Community workshops of the past have identified the potential of Jack Reid Park and adjacent QLDC free hold land to be used to construct a multi use community facility.
- Redevelopment of the Arrowtown Camping Ground and Jack Reid Park in line with the QLDC Camp Ground Strategy has made this area favourable to be retained as a community hub.
- After an initial meeting of interested parties it become apparent in our early informal investigations there is a number of other community groups and organisations facing the same issues “a place to call home”.
- A submission by the Arrowtown Village Association to the LTCCP detailed the intended project.
- A submission to the Community Services Committee on cabin leases.
- Application for a Land Lease.
- Establishment of the Arrowtown Community & Sports Centre Inc Trust.
- Trust meeting with Mayor Vanessa Van Uden, Arrowtown Councillor Lex Perkins and Parks & Reserves Manager Paul Wilson to establish the QLDC Position.
